Documentary film arguing for a freeze in the nuclear buildup. There are clips of many prominent figures in the antinuclear movement and others talking about the threat of nuclear war: H. Jack Geiger, M. D., co-founder of Physicians for Social Responsibility; William Kincade, Civil Defense Consultant; California State Senator John Garamendi; Helen Caldicott, M. D., Physicians for Social Responsibility; Paul Wamke, Director of U. S. Arms Control and Development Agency and Chief Negotiator for the SALT Talks; Robert McNamara, former U. S. Secretary of State and former President of the World Bank; Dr. George Kistiakowsky, Science Advisor to Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy, and Johnson; Rear Admiral Gene R. LaRocque, USN (Ret)., Director for the Center for Defense Information; Herbert Scoville, Jr., former U. S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Deputy Director for Research, President of the Arms Control Association; Pope John Paul II; Dick Gregory; President Eisenhower. The tone is one of warning. Speakers express dismay at the buildup of arms, the amount of overkill capability, the money being spent to build weapons versus useful products, the false narratives being sold to the American public in order to scare them into supporting a nuclear weapons race, and the existential threat of nuclear annihilation.
