English Idioms for Crowded Place
1- Teeming with people= full of people
The whole area around the stadium is Teeming with people.
2- A ripple of laughter= small wave
Because of Emma’s joke, there was a ripple of laughter across the room.
3- Surge= to move quickly and powerfully
I heard shouting and there was a sudden surge in the crowd.
4- Make a splash= to get a lot of public attention
He has already made a splash in New York for his design of the store interior.
5- Go with the flow= be relaxed and accept a situation, rather than trying to alter or control it.
Just relax and go with the flow!
6- A stream of people= a continuous flow of people
There’s a constant stream of people coming in and the stadium starts to fill up.
7- A sea of faces= a large crowd of people
He scanned the sea of faces in the audience and spotted only a handful of black people.
8- Stem the tide= stop something bad, from increasing
We have to do something to stem the tide of violence.
9- Pour/flood in= to get in a place as a large crowd
Everybody pours/floods in fifteen minutes before the game starts.
10- Overflowing= filled with
The local pubs are overflowing with people having their drinks outside on the pavement
11- Trickle in= to arrive or move somewhere slowly and gradually, in small numbers
I go into the stadium early and watch people slowly trickling in.
