English Idiom Part 4- Lesson 16- Idioms Using “No”
1. No idea = Don’t know at all.
I have no idea where she went after lunch.
2. No word = No communication or update.
There’s been no word from him since he left for the trip.
3. No way = Absolutely not / Impossible.
No way am I jumping off that cliff!
4. No reason = Without a specific cause or explanation.
She started crying for no reason.
5. No point = Something is useless or pointless.
There’s no point arguing with him, he never listens.
6. No wonder = Not surprising.
She works all night, no wonder she’s always tired.
7. No chance = Impossible; not going to happen.
No chance he’ll forgive you after that lie.
8. No sign = Nothing to indicate the presence or arrival of something.
There’s no sign of the delivery yet.
9. No joke = Serious or difficult.
Climbing Mount Everest is no joke.
10. No doubt = Certainly; without question.
No doubt she’ll get the promotion, she’s the best for the job.
11. No bad thing = Something that is actually good or beneficial.
A bit of failure early in life is no bad thing.
12. A no-go area = A place that is too dangerous or forbidden to enter.
That part of the city is a no-go area after dark.
13. A real no-no = Something totally unacceptable or inappropriate.
Wearing white to someone else’s wedding is a real no-no.
14. No news is good news = If you haven’t heard anything, assume everything is fine.
We haven’t heard from the hospital, but no news is good news, right?
15. No love lost = Mutual dislike between two people.
There’s no love lost between the two managers.
16. In no time = Very quickly; soon.
We’ll be there in no time if traffic stays clear.
17. Nothing to write home about = Meaning: Ordinary; not particularly impressive.
The food was okay, but nothing to write home about.
18. Nothing ventured, nothing gained! = You must take risks to achieve success.
I know it’s risky, but hey nothing ventured, nothing gained!
19. Nothing in particular = Not anything specific.
I’m not looking for anything in particular, just browsing.
20. Nothing to choose between them = Two or more things are very similar in quality.
Both hotels look good, nothing to choose between them.
21. Nothing to do with me = Not related or involved.
That mess in the kitchen has nothing to do with me!
22. No turning back = A decision has been made and it’s too late to change it.
Once the contract is signed, there’s no turning back.
23- No hard feelings = No resentment or anger after a disagreement.
I know we had a disagreement, but let’s move on—no hard feelings, okay?
24- No such luck = Used to express disappointment that something didn’t happen as hoped.
I thought I’d get the job offer today, but no such luck.
25- No kidding = Used to show surprise, disbelief, or to emphasize that something is true.
You met Taylor Swift? No kidding!
