English Idiom Part 2- Lesson 25- Idioms about Mind

1- Slip (my) mind = I forgot about it entirely.

I was supposed to email her back, but it completely slipped my mind.

 

2- Bear in mind = Remember or consider something.

Bear it in mind that this report is due tomorrow morning.

 

3- Mind goes blank = Unable to remember or think of something.

During the exam, my mind went blank and I forgot everything I studied.

 

4- At the back of my mind = Something you’re aware of, but not thinking about constantly.

I agreed to the trip, but there’s still a worry at the back of my mind about the cost.

 

5- Give someone a piece of your mind = Speak angrily or frankly to someone.

I was so frustrated that I finally gave him a piece of my mind.

 

6- A one-track mind = Always thinking about one particular thing.

He’s got a one-track mind, he only talks about football!

 

7- Speak your mind = Say exactly what you think.

Don’t be afraid to speak your mind during the meeting.

 

8- No doubt in (my) mind = I’m absolutely certain.

There is no doubt in my mind that she deserves the promotion.

 

9- Change someone mind = Decide to do something different.

He was about to quit, but then he changed his mind.

 

10- Spring to mind (come to mind) = Come into your thoughts suddenly.

When you say “comfort food,” pizza immediately springs to mind.

 

11- Take (your) mind off things = Distract yourself from worries.

Let’s go out and do something fun to take your mind off things.

 

12- Weight off my mind (or a weight off my mind) = To relieve worry or anxiety.

When I finally submitted my thesis, it felt like a weight off my mind.

 

13- Something on someone mind = To be worried or preoccupied with a thought or problem.

He’s been quiet all day clearly, there’s something on his mind.

 

14- Peace of mind = A feeling of being safe or free from worry.

I installed a security system for peace of mind while I’m away.

 

15- The thought never crossed someone mind = Never considered or thought about it.

The thought never crossed my mind that she might be upset.

 

16- Never mind = Forget it; don’t worry about it.

Oh, I was going to ask you something, but never mind it’s not important.

 

17- Out of (your) mind? = To be crazy or act irrationally

Are you out of your mind? You can’t drive in that storm!

 

18- Mind (your) own business = Stop interfering in someone else’s affairs.

I told him to mind his own business when he started asking personal questions.
