1- A change is as good as a rest = Doing something different can be as refreshing as taking a break.
I switched from writing to painting for a day, a change is as good as a rest.

 

2- We had a whale of a time = We had a really fun and enjoyable experience.
At the beach party last weekend, we had a whale of a time!

 

3- We’ve packed everything except the kitchen sink = We’ve packed almost everything imaginable.
For our road trip, we’ve packed everything except the kitchen sink.

 

4- There’s no place like home = Home is the most comfortable and pleasant place to be.
After a long vacation, I realized there’s no place like home.

 

5- It was like home from home = A place that feels as comfortable as one’s own home.
The little inn in the countryside was like home from home.

 

6- I always travel light = I pack and carry only what’s necessary.
Since I hate heavy luggage, I always travel light.

 

7- Just what the doctor ordered = Exactly what was needed.
A weekend at the spa was just what the doctor ordered.

 

8- We’re going to recharge the batteries = To rest and restore energy.
We’re taking a short trip to the mountains, we’re going to recharge the batteries.

 

9- Getting away from it all = Leaving behind the stresses of everyday life.
We’re planning a camping trip to get away from it all.

 

10- The time of our lives = An extremely enjoyable experience.
During the festival, we truly had the time of our lives.

 

11- In the middle of nowhere = In a very remote or isolated place.
Their cottage is located in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by forest.

 

12- Let your hair down = To relax and enjoy yourself freely.
After the exam, we went dancing to let our hair down.
