English Idiom Part 3- Lesson 12- Idioms about Health
1- Fit as a fiddle = To be in very good health or physical condition.
After a week of rest and healthy food, I’m feeling as fit as a fiddle.
2- Right as rain = To feel completely well or normal again.
I had a cold last week, but now I’m as right as rain.
3- Fighting fit = To be in excellent health or condition, especially after illness.
After weeks of training, he’s fighting fit for the marathon.
4- I can’t complain = To be generally satisfied with your situation or condition.
Life’s been good lately I can’t complain.
5- Picture of health = To look extremely healthy.
Even at 70, she’s the picture of health.
6- Back on my feet = To have recovered from illness or difficulty.
After the surgery, it took a few weeks before I was back on my feet.
7- New lease of life = A renewed sense of energy or enthusiasm, often after recovering from illness.
Since moving to the countryside, I’ve got a new lease of life.
8- Clean bill of health = A doctor has declared someone healthy.
After all the tests, I’ve finally been given a clean bill of health.
9- On the way to recovery = Making good progress toward getting better.
Thanks to the medication, I’m well on the way to recovery.
10- At death’s door = To feel very ill or close to dying (often exaggerated).
During the worst of the flu, I felt as if I was at death’s door.
11- Living on borrowed time = To be surviving after a point where death or failure was expected.
The doctor said he was living on borrowed time after the accident.
12- Look like death warmed up = To look extremely ill or tired.
You should go home and rest because you look like death warmed up.
13- Feel under the weather = To feel sick or unwell.
I didn’t go to work today because I was feeling under the weather.
