English Idiom Part 3- Lesson 4- Idioms about Being Positive

1- You win some, you lose some = Sometimes you succeed, and sometimes you don’t – that’s life.
I didn’t get the job I applied for, but hey say: you win some, you lose some. You can not win them all

 

2- Third time lucky! = After failing twice, the third attempt will succeed.
I’ve failed the driving test twice, but third time lucky! I’m feeling confident this time.

 

3- You never know! = Anything is possible, even if it seems unlikely.
He might still show up to the party you never know!

 

4- No news is good news! = If you haven’t heard anything, it probably means everything is fine.
I haven’t heard from the doctor yet, but no news is good news!

 

5- It’ll be all right on the night! = Even if there are problems during preparation, everything will work out in the end (often used for events or performances).
The rehearsal was a mess, but don’t worry, it’ll be all right on the night!

 

6- Fingers crossed! = Hoping for good luck or a positive outcome.
My interview went well, so fingers crossed! I got the job.

 

7- That is Life = it expresses acceptance of unfortunate or difficult events as a normal part of life
We planned everything perfectly, but then it rained all day: That is life, right?

 

8- Look at the bright side = To find good things in a bad situation.
Though she lost her best cat in a car accident, she must look at the bright side for being alive.

 

9- See the light = It means to realize something like a hope after disappointments or dismays
After months of confusion, he finally saw the light and got motivated to finish the rest of project. .

 

10- Better late than never = it’s good that something happened, even if it was delayed.
He finally handed in the report better late than never.

 

11- Another day, another dollar = Life continues as usual, especially at work.
Back to the office tomorrow another day, another dollar.

 

12- A world of difference = A big change or difference.
Upgrading the software made a world of difference in our workflow.
