Meaning and usage of kitchen word
What is definition, meaning and usage of word kitchen

Word of the Day: Kitchen

The place in your home where food is prepared is called the kitchen.

  • Hodan’s house has a very large kitchen.
  • Bring the groceries to the kitchen.
  • The apartment we looked at has an eat-in kitchen. (The dining area is in the kitchen)
  • Bill’s kitchen has a large island in the middle of the room. His kitchen has a lot of appliances.*

This word is often used as an adjective to describe things that are in the kitchen:

  • The kitchen sink has a leak.
  • Put the glasses in the kitchen cabinet above the counter.
  • Valerie has a basket of flowers just outside of her kitchen window.
  • Laura’s kitchen counters are made of granite.

Note: Kitchens are an area where the family often gathers, so kitchens continue to get larger and larger in American homes. In older homes, the kitchen might be small and include a pantry (a small room for extra food); however, small kitchens are often remodeled nowadays in order to make them larger. It’s very common for there to be an area in the kitchen where people can eat–even in houses that have a separate dining room.

*island: A kitchen island looks like a large, built-in table. It often has additional storage space and sometimes the island has a sink, a stove, or a small refrigerator for wine. An island can also be used as an area for eating. In this case, it would need enough space for chairs

*appliances: machines that make life easier in the kitchen: dishwashers, extra stoves and ovens, food preparation equipment, etc.
