The Nuclear Age Peace Foundation presents their argument for nuclear disarmament. The following five points are examined in detail: Nuclear weapons are 1) Catastrophically dangerous, 2) Incompatible with global security, 3) Enormously costly, 4)Illegal under international law, and 5) Immoral. Topics covered include the unequal distribution of nuclear arms, modern terrorism threatening theft or misuse of nuclear weapons, the strength of modern weapons and the “overkill” capability, and inevitable technical or human errors leading to accidents. That these weapons kill indiscriminately through their initial destruction plus the residual radiation is called both illegal and immoral. The section, “What Is Needed?” outlines four global goals: 1) Compliance with international law, 2) Political will of nuclear nation leaders, 3) International treaty regime, and 4) Transparent, irreversible, and verifiable standards.
