go + verb

Many Americans use the verb “go” and then a verb in the simple form. Some English speakers consider this a mistake or poor usage, but you should know about this. Here are some examples:

Let’s go eat.
Tom went to go get a snow blower.
We need to go find a new apartment.
Go get it!

Whether you like this form or not, you will hear this in the United States. However, keep in mind that the verb “go” can’t be used with all verbs. This is something that you will have to develop an ear for.

2. You lost your keys. You should_______________________________.
3. The kids are outside. They can _______________________________.
4. We want pizza. We should __________________________________.
5. My car is broken. I need to __________________________________.

Possible Answers:

1. It’s 12:00 and I’m hungry. Let’s go eat lunch.
2. You lost your keys. You should go find them.
3. The kids are outside. They can go play.
4. We want pizza. We should go get some pizza.
5. My car is broken. I need to go get it fixed.
