Sugar is used for flavoring food. It’s very sweet. Sugar comes from certain plants including sugar cane, beets, and corn.
- People add sugar to coffee or tea to make it taste sweet.
- Donuts are made with dough and sugar.
- A gumdrop is a type of candy. Gumdrops are covered with sugar.
- Sugar cubes are 100 percent sugar.
- Milk chocolate has a lot of sugar in it.
- Soft drinks such as Coke and Pepsi have a lot of sugar in them.
- The sugar in most soft drinks comes from high fructose corn syrup which is made from corn.
- If food or drink does not have sugar, it’s said to be sugar free.
The word “sugary” is an adjective.
- Sugary soft drinks are not good for you.
- Sugary cereal is also unhealthy.
- If something is too sugary, you might not be able to eat it or drink it.
Note: The “s” is “sugar” is pronounced with an “sh” sound.
