Here is a list of 10 discussion questions with sample answers for practicing English speaking with your language partner.

  • What is your attitude toward marriage? Explain.

I think marriage is a big decision, and it’s something you shouldn’t rush into. It’s a commitment to another person, and it should be based on love, respect, and shared values. It’s not just about finding someone to spend your life with, but also building a partnership where you support each other and grow together.

  • Do you think it is important to get married before moving in with your boyfriend\girlfriend? Explain.

For me personally, it’s important to get married before living together. I believe that marriage is a commitment and a symbol of our relationship. It also has a deeper meaning in our culture, and it’s important to respect these traditions. Plus, I believe it’s best to build a strong foundation of trust and commitment before living together.

  • Will you feel comfortable living together without the official registration? What about having a baby?

No, I wouldn’t feel comfortable living together without being officially married. It goes against our cultural values, and it also wouldn’t be accepted by my family.  As for having a baby, that’s definitely something I would only consider after marriage. It’s important to me to build a strong foundation for our family, and that includes marriage.

  • Do you think parents should be married or it’s not important? Explain.

For me, it’s really important for parents to be married. Marriage provides stability and a sense of security for children. It’s about creating a loving and supportive family environment for them. It’s also a matter of respect for our traditions and cultural values.

  • What positive or negative changes take place in the life of a couple after marriage? Explain.

Marriage can definitely bring positive changes, like increased responsibility, shared goals, and a deeper sense of commitment. It also creates a stronger bond between two people. However, it can also bring challenges like adjusting to a new lifestyle, learning to communicate effectively, and managing financial responsibilities together. It’s all about navigating these changes and growing together.

  • What is the best age for a man or woman to get married? Why?

There’s no one right answer for that! It depends on the individual and their life circumstances. I believe it’s important to be emotionally mature and ready to handle the responsibilities of marriage before making that decision. But, again, it’s very personal.

  • Can you tell me about the wedding traditions in your country? Explain.

Wedding traditions in Iran are beautiful! There’s a lot of emphasis on family and community. We have a ceremony called “Khaneh Beroni” where the groom goes to pick up the bride from her house. There’s a lot of music, dancing, and celebration! There’s also a “Sofreh Aghd” which is a traditional table set with symbolic items like sugar, salt, and a mirror. It’s a really beautiful and meaningful tradition.

  • What is your opinion about  polygamy if it is allowed in your country? Explain

Polygamy is legal in Iran, but it’s very rare. Personally, I don’t believe in polygamy. I think it’s a complex issue with many potential problems. I believe in monogamy,  and I believe marriage should be based on love and commitment between two people.

  • Would you address a wedding agency for help or would you organize everything yourself? Why?

I would probably try to organize my own wedding, but I’m open to getting some help from a wedding planner if needed. I like the idea of making it a personal and unique event, but it can be a lot of work!  So, maybe a little help wouldn’t hurt!

  • What is your attitude toward a church wedding ceremony? Do you think it is necessary?

As a Muslim, I don’t believe in a church wedding ceremony. It’s not something I would consider. Our religious ceremonies are different, and they have a lot of meaning for us. We have beautiful traditions and rituals that are part of our faith. I would definitely want to have a traditional Islamic wedding ceremony.
