Practice English Speaking by Talking about Personality

Here is a list of 10 discussion questions with sample answers for practicing English speaking with your language partner.

  • What are some characteristics of your personality? Explain.

I’m a pretty curious person. I love learning new things and exploring different ideas. I’m also quite friendly and outgoing. I enjoy meeting new people and making connections. I’m also pretty creative and enjoy expressing myself through different forms of art and music.

  • What makes you happy? Explain.

Spending time with my family and friends brings me a lot of joy. I love their company and the laughter and fun we share together. I also find joy in helping others and making a positive impact on the world. And of course, a good cup of tea and a good book always make me happy!

  • What are some things that make you angry? Why?

I get angry when I see injustice or unfairness happening. It really upsets me to see people being treated poorly or being denied their basic rights. I also get angry when people are disrespectful or rude, especially to those who are vulnerable or in need.

  • Are you happy with your personality? Explain.

I’m mostly happy with my personality. I like who I am and I believe I’m a good person. There are always things I can improve on, but I’m content with myself. I’m always learning and growing, and I’m excited to see who I become in the future.

  • Would you like to be different? Why or why not?

I don’t think I’d want to be drastically different.  I’m happy with my quirks and my flaws. Of course, there are always things I wish I could do better, but I believe it’s those challenges that make me who I am. I wouldn’t trade who I am for anything.

  • Are you a determined person? Are you a stubborn person?

I can be pretty determined when I set my mind to something. But I’m also aware of my own limitations. I don’t let stubbornness get in the way of making compromises or changing my mind if I’m presented with new information.

  • Are you shy? On which occasions are you shy?

I can be shy in new situations or when I’m around people I don’t know well. But once I get to know someone, I’m usually more comfortable and open. I think it’s important to step outside of my comfort zone and challenge myself to be more outgoing!

  • Do you consider yourself selfish? Why?

I try to be considerate of others and put their needs before my own. I believe in treating others with kindness and respect, and I value the importance of being helpful and supportive. But, of course, everyone has their own needs and priorities, and it’s important to find a balance.

  • Is your personality suited to your job? Why or why not?

I believe my personality is suited to my job. I’m able to communicate effectively, follow instructions, and provide helpful information. I also enjoy learning new things and improving my skills, which are important to me.

  • In what way has your personality changed? Why has it changed??

I’ve definitely changed over time. I’m more confident now than I used to be, and I’m more aware of my own strengths and weaknesses.  My experiences, my relationships, and my journey of self-discovery have all contributed to shaping who I am today. I believe it’s important to embrace change and to continue growing and evolving as a person.
