Practice English Speaking by Talking about Annoying Things
Here is a list of 10 discussion questions with sample answers for practicing English speaking with your language partner.
- What annoys you about living where you live now? Explain.
To be honest, I find the traffic here in Tehran super frustrating. It’s always jammed, and it takes forever to get anywhere! The constant honking and the aggressive driving habits can really get on my nerves. I wish people were a bit more patient and courteous on the roads.
- What annoys you about driving a car? Explain.
Ugh, I hate it when people cut me off or tailgate! It’s really dangerous and just plain rude. It makes me feel so stressed out, and I just want to scream sometimes! Also, people who park right in the middle of the street, blocking everyone else, are a big pet peeve. It’s so inconsiderate!
- What annoys you most about living at home with your family? Why?
It’s tough living with a big family, but it’s something I’m used to. I guess what gets to me sometimes is when everyone leaves their stuff everywhere and doesn’t clean up after themselves. I’m pretty neat and organized, so it drives me crazy when things are messy and cluttered.
- Do you think you have habits that annoy other people? Explain.
I’m sure I do! Everyone has their quirks. I can be a bit of a perfectionist, which can be annoying to others sometimes. For example, I’m really particular about things being in their place, and I sometimes get frustrated when people don’t follow my system.
- Do you get annoyed when other people display bad manners? Give some examples.
Absolutely! It’s just common courtesy to be polite and considerate of others. For example, I hate it when people interrupt others while they’re talking or don’t say “please” and “thank you.” It’s just rude!
- What is the most annoying thing for you? Explain.
Honestly, it’s when people are constantly on their phones and not paying attention to the people around them. It’s like they’re living in their own little world, and it’s so disrespectful. I try to be present and engaged when I’m with others, and it’s frustrating when people aren’t reciprocating that energy.
- What is the most annoying thing about your partner? Explain.
I’m not currently dating, so I can’t answer this one! But I can tell you that I’m sure everyone has annoying habits, even partners. The key is to communicate openly and respectfully about things that are bothering you.
- What is something that your parents do that annoys you? Explain.
Sometimes my parents can be a bit overprotective. They worry about everything, and they’re always trying to give me advice, even when I haven’t asked for it. It’s sweet, but it can get a little overwhelming sometimes. I want to be independent and make my own decisions.
- If something is annoying you, what do you usually do? Explain.
It depends on the situation! If it’s something small, I try to let it go and not get too upset about it. But if it’s something that’s really bothering me, I’ll talk to the person about it calmly and respectfully. I try to explain how their actions are making me feel, and I hope we can find a solution together.
- How do you change annoying habits? Explain.
It’s tough to change ingrained habits, but it’s possible! First, I try to become aware of the habit and why I do it. Then, I work on replacing it with a new, more positive behavior. It takes time and effort, but I believe in the power of self-improvement!
