Here is a list of 10 discussion questions with sample answers for practicing English speaking with your language partner.

  • Can you tell me about something you love?

I love spending time with my family.  It’s so precious to me. We have big family gatherings, especially during holidays. We cook traditional Persian food together, play games, and tell stories. It’s always loud and chaotic, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything!

  • Can you tell me about something you hate?

I hate it when people judge others without getting to know them. It’s so unfair! Everyone has their own story and their own struggles. We should be more understanding and compassionate towards each other.

  • Can you tell me about something you really care about?

I really care about education. I believe everyone deserves a chance to learn and grow. It’s so important for our personal development and for society as a whole. I’m passionate about helping people access education, especially girls in my country who might not have the same opportunities as boys.

  • Can you tell me about a dream you’ve had?

I had a dream recently where I was flying. It was so surreal! I was soaring above the city, feeling completely free. I woke up feeling inspired and optimistic.

  • Can you tell me about a goal you have?

I want to travel the world and experience different cultures. I’ve always been fascinated by other countries and their traditions. I want to see the Taj Mahal, explore the ancient ruins in Egypt, and maybe even learn to speak another language fluently!

  • Can you tell me about yourself?

I’m a pretty outgoing person. I love meeting new people and learning about their lives. I’m also quite curious. I love asking questions and trying to understand things better.  I’m a bit of a dreamer too, but I also try to be realistic and grounded.

  • Can you tell me about your childhood?

I grew up in a big city in Iran. My childhood was full of laughter and adventure. I have a lot of great memories playing with my siblings, going to the park, and exploring our neighborhood. We used to have these amazing picnics in the mountains. It was truly special.

  • Can you tell me about something you believe in?

I believe in kindness. I think it’s the most important quality a person can have. Kindness can change the world, one small act at a time.

  • Can you tell about a time when you were happy?

I was so happy when I got accepted to university! It was a big milestone in my life, and it felt like all my hard work had paid off. I was excited to start a new chapter in my life and learn even more.

  • Can you tell about a time when you were sad?

I was really sad when my grandma passed away. She was a kind and loving woman who always had a smile on her face. I miss her dearly.
