Here is a list of 10 discussion questions with sample answers for practicing English speaking with your language partner.

  • Do you believe in ghosts? Why or why not?

Honestly, I’m not sure if I believe in ghosts. I’ve heard stories, but I’ve never experienced anything supernatural myself. I guess I’m open to the possibility, but I need more evidence.

  • Do you believe that dead people come back to life as ghosts? Why or why not?

I’m not sure if dead people come back as ghosts. It’s a complex idea, and there’s no scientific proof. It’s interesting to think about, though.

  • Would you like to talk to a ghost? Why or why not?

It would be really strange to talk to a ghost! I’m not sure I’d be brave enough. I guess it depends on the situation. If it was a friendly ghost, maybe I’d be curious to hear their story.

  • Do you know any good stories about ghosts? Explain.

I once heard a ghost story from my grandmother about a woman who lived in our village long ago. She was a healer and helped many people, but when she fell ill, some were too quick to blame her for witchcraft. After she died, strange occurrences began—her voice could be heard in the wind, and people claimed to see her wandering through the fields at night. Some say she still watches over the villagers, protecting them from harm, while others fear her spirit as a reminder of the injustices she faced.

  • Have you ever come in contact with a ghost? (Have you ever seen a ghost?) What happened?

No, I’ve never seen a ghost, but I’ve heard stories from friends. Sometimes I wonder if maybe I’ve seen something I didn’t recognize or understand.

  • If one of your friends told you they had seen a ghost, would you believe him/her? Why/Why not?

If one of my friends told me they saw a ghost, I would listen to them. I would want to hear their story and understand their experience. I wouldn’t necessarily believe them, but I’d be open to the possibility.

  • What is the scariest ghost story you know? Narrate it.

One of the scariest ghost stories I know is about a young girl who lived in a small village in Iran. She loved playing near an old, abandoned house that locals claimed was haunted. One day, she went inside, drawn by whispers that seemed to call her name. As she explored, she found a dusty mirror. When she looked into it, she saw a reflection of a woman in a white dress, weeping. Suddenly, the girl felt a cold breeze and heard a voice say, “Help me!” Terrified, she ran home and told her family. They discovered that years ago, a bride had been left at the altar and had vanished in that house. It’s said her spirit still lingers, searching for closure.

  • Is there an area where you live (park, house, etc.) that is known to be haunted? What is the story behind it?

In Iran, one area that is known to be haunted is the ancient ruins of Persepolis. Many visitors report strange noises and a feeling of being watched. Some claim to have seen ghostly figures dressed in ancient Persian attire wandering through the ruins. Legend has it that the spirits of the ancient kings still guard their city, and anyone who disrespects the site might feel their wrath.

  • Do you believe that houses can be haunted? Have you ever been to one?

I believe that houses can be haunted. I’ve read stories about houses where people have experienced strange or disturbing things. It’s a spooky thought, and it makes me wonder if there’s something more to the world than we can see.

  • How much do you know or read about different types of supernatural phenomena? Explain

I’m interested in learning about different kinds of supernatural phenomena, but I’m not an expert.  I’ve read some books and watched some documentaries, but I’m still trying to figure out what’s real and what’s just fiction. It’s definitely a topic that fascinates me!
