Practice English Speaking by Talking about Goals & Wishes

Here is a list of 10 discussion questions with sample answers for practicing English speaking with your language partner.

  • What is your biggest goal in life? Explain.

Hmmm, it’s a big one! I want to make a difference in the world,  maybe even leave a small imprint on history. I dream of using my knowledge and skills to solve problems, improve people’s lives, and make the world a better place.

  • How do you plan to achieve that goal? Explain.

It’s a long journey! I’m currently focusing on my education, learning new things, and honing my skills. I believe in the power of knowledge and hard work. I want to be a role model for other girls, especially in Iran, showing them that they can achieve anything they set their minds to.

  • What are your “short term” goals? Explain.

Right now, I’m focusing on finishing my degree and finding a great job in teaching. I want to gain practical experience and build a solid foundation for my career.

  • What are your “long term” goals? Explain.

I’m thinking about the bigger picture. I want to be a leader in my field, maybe even start my own company.

  • Should parents help their children set goals? Why or why not?

I think it’s a delicate balance.  Parents can offer guidance, support, and encouragement, but ultimately, it’s the child who needs to choose their own path. It’s about fostering independence and self-discovery.

  • What are your educational goals?Explain.

Right now, my main goal is to complete my degree and hopefully go on to do postgraduate studies. I want to learn everything I can about teaching and keep pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.

  • What are your career goals? Explain.

I see myself working in a field that combines my passion for teaching with my desire to make a positive impact. I’m thinking about working in great companies.

  • What are your financial goals? Explain.

I want to be financially independent and secure, but money isn’t everything. My goal is to use my financial resources to achieve my other goals and help others.

  • Do you have any goals that you feel are unrealistic? Explain.

Maybe the idea of becoming a super-famous billionaire teacher, haha! But I believe in setting ambitious goals, even if they seem a bit far-fetched. It’s about challenging yourself and pushing your limits.

  • What are the main differences between male and female goals? Explain.

It’s a complex topic. In Iran, there are often different expectations for men and women. Women might be expected to focus more on family and household responsibilities. But times are changing! More and more women are pursuing careers and setting ambitious goals. It’s about breaking down stereotypes and empowering women to reach their full potential.
