Conversation Questions about Fears
1- Do you play any sports?
I don’t play sports regularly now, but I enjoy staying active when I can. Back in school, I was more involved and liked participating in different games. These days, I just try to go for walks or do light exercise at home to stay fit. If I had more time, I’d love to get back into a sport. It’s a great stress reliever.
2- Are you a good soccer player? Basketball player? Baseball player? Rugby player? Tennis player?
I wouldn’t call myself a “good” soccer or basketball player, but I can hold my own casually. I used to enjoy playing badminton the most, it’s fast-paced and fun. I’ve tried tennis and rugby, but those are more challenging for me. I prefer games that involve a bit more strategy and movement than pure physical contact.
3- Are you a member of any sports team? If not, have you ever been?
I’m not currently on any sports team, but I used to be part of my school’s badminton club. I also joined a netball team briefly during high school. It was more about having fun and being part of a team than being super competitive. I miss that kind of energy and group activity sometimes.
4- Are you good at sports? What sports are you good at? Do you often play sports?
I’d say I’m average at sports but not amazing but not bad either. I’m best at badminton and table tennis. I don’t play often now, but whenever there’s an opportunity at a gathering or a friendly match, I’m up for it. I think being active is important, even if it’s not through a formal sport.
5- Have you ever been to a soccer game? An America football game? A baseball game?
I’ve been to a few local football games, especially Liga Super Malaysia matches. The crowd can get really excited! I’ve never been to an American football or baseball game because it’s not common here. But I do enjoy watching international football like the EPL on TV. Live games have a totally different vibe compared to watching at home.
6- How often do you go swimming? Where do you go? Who do you go with?
I don’t go swimming that often, maybe a few times a year. Usually, I go to a public pool like the one in Kompleks Sukan or when I stay at a hotel. I’ll go with my family or cousins during the holidays. Swimming is relaxing and great for cooling down, especially in our Malaysian weather. I wish I had more time to go regularly.
7- Do you play chess? Why or why not?
I can play chess a bit, but it’s not really my favorite. It requires a lot of thinking and patience. I prefer more active games or sports. But I do admire people who are good at chess, it’s a very smart game. If someone asks me to play, I might join for fun.
8- Were you on any sports teams in high school? How about junior high school? How about now?
Yes, I joined the netball team in primary and junior high school. In secondary school, I was more focused on badminton. We had school tournaments and friendly matches between classes. Right now, I’m not in any team, but I still play casually with friends if we organize something. It brings back a lot of good memories.
In junior high, I played netball and sometimes volleyball during PE. In high school, I focused more on badminton, especially since we had more court time and proper training. We used to have sukan tahunan, which was always exciting. I wasn’t super competitive, but I enjoyed the team spirit. Sports helped me balance my studies and stay active.
9- What do you think of pro wrestling? Thai kickboxing? Japanese sumo?
I think pro wrestling is entertaining, especially WWE-type shows. It’s more like a performance than real sports. Thai kickboxing is impressive because the strength and focus are amazing. As for Japanese sumo, I find it interesting and very cultural. Not many Malaysians follow it, but it’s cool to learn about different sports around the world.
10- Do you like to play golf? Why or why not?
Though some people like to play golf, I view it as a waste of time. Indeed, I do not consider golf a sport. Most rich people go to golf courses to network and make business deals while playing golf. In other words, in my opinion, golf is a high-end entertainment for rich people rather than a popular sport for middle-class or low-income people. Lastly, in some cultures and countries, golf is still not regarded as a sport.
