In this lesson, you learn 10 conversation questions about business with sample answers for having a normal conversation discussing business. We also have added 20 extra conversation questions if you decide to extend your discussion. Starting and growing a business is an exciting journey filled with opportunities and challenges. To better understand how businesses operate, thrive, and adapt, it’s important to ask meaningful questions that go beyond surface-level details. These questions aim to uncover deeper insights into strategy, operations, and employee engagement.
Note that some of the discussion questions assume that you’re a business owner. If you’re not, just imagine that you’re currently running your own business.

Conversation Questions about Music
1- What is business? Explain.
Business is basically the process of offering products or services in exchange for money. It involves identifying a need or problem and providing something valuable to solve it. A good business also looks at how to keep things sustainable and efficient. It’s not just about profit, it’s about growth, impact, and creating opportunities for people. At its core, it’s about building something meaningful for both customers and the team behind it.
2- When did you start your business? What inspired you?
Personally, I haven’t started a business myself. But I’ve always been inspired by how businesses are built from identifying a problem to creating a solution. It’s fascinating to see how passion, creativity, and persistence come together. I’ve seen others grow successful ventures from scratch, which gives me a lot of insight into what it takes. Maybe someday I’ll start one too, once the right idea comes along.
3- Are you only a service provider? Or do you also offer products or hybrid solutions?
Since I don’t run a business myself, I don’t offer any services or products. But many businesses today go for a hybrid model, combining services with digital or physical products. This gives them more flexibility and a broader customer base. Hybrid solutions are great because they offer more options and value. If I were to start something, I’d probably consider that route too.
4- Do you have any service expansion plans? Can you elaborate?
I’m not currently operating a business, so I don’t have expansion plans of my own. But I think service expansion is important for businesses to stay relevant. Many companies grow by introducing new services, entering new markets, or adapting to technology. It’s all about staying flexible and listening to customer feedback. The key is to grow wisely, not just quickly.
5- Do you have an international presence? If yes, which regions are you currently active in, and why?
Since I don’t manage a business, I don’t have an international presence. But I’ve learned that expanding internationally depends on demand, culture, and market readiness. Companies usually target regions with similar consumer behavior or economic potential. It’s a big step that requires proper research and localization. Done right, it can really boost a brand’s reach and credibility.
6- Do you think recession is affecting your business? How have you adapted?
I don’t own a business, but I’ve noticed how businesses around me are adapting to economic changes. Recession usually means lower spending, so companies need to be smarter with resources. Many are cutting costs, going digital, or focusing on core offerings. The ones that survive often have strong customer loyalty and flexible strategies. It’s all about staying focused and being ready to adjust.
7- What is the strength of your employees? Could you describe?
Since I don’t have a team under me, I can’t speak for employee strength personally. But from what I’ve observed, strong teams are usually made up of people who are adaptable, curious, and collaborative. Skills are important, but attitude and communication matter just as much. When employees feel valued and supported, they tend to perform better and stay longer. A good team culture really makes the difference.
8- Do you have any challenge in manpower retention? What strategies have you tried to improve retention?
Again, I’m not running a business or managing a team, but I know that employee retention is a common challenge. Many companies struggle to keep good talent due to competition or limited growth opportunities. Some strategies that help include clear career paths, fair compensation, and a healthy work-life balance. Listening to employees and acting on feedback also goes a long way in keeping people motivated.
9- Who is taking care of your human resources department? How is your HR team structured?
I don’t have an HR department of my own, but I’ve worked with HR teams before. Usually, a small business might have one HR manager, while larger companies have separate roles for hiring, payroll, training, and employee welfare. A well-structured HR team helps the company stay organized and supports both the management and the staff. They play a key role in building a positive work environment.
10- What is so special about your business? Describe.
Since I don’t have a business, I can’t say what makes “mine” special but I admire businesses that stand out for their authenticity and impact. The special ones are usually those that care about their customers, treat employees well, and bring something new to the table. It’s not just about being big, it’s about being meaningful. If I ever start one, I hope it reflects those same values.
