To release something is to let it go. The word “release” is a verb.

*In the second sentence, “release” is a noun.
- When a crime is committed, details of the crime are eventually released to the public.
- Students are released from school at the end of the school day.
- A person who no longer wants to be part of a legal relationship can be released from a contract.
