When a liquid or a solid goes from a container to some intended area or another container, you can use the word “pour.”

  • He’s pouring a chemical into a flask.
  • If you pour oil into your engine, it’s a good idea to use a funnel.
  • She’s pouring water into a bowl.
  • You pour cereal into a bowl.
  • Some people pour mulch onto their gardens.
  • It’s pouring rain. (When it rains heavily, you can use the word “pour.”)

*Notice that the pronunciation of “pour” is the same as the pronunciation for the adjective “poor.”
