Word of the Day: Loop
A thing that makes a full circle makes a loop, but a loop doesn’t have to take the shape of a perfect circle. A loop may be circular or oval.
- Some parts of a roller coaster take the shape of a loop.
- A cowboy’s lasso forms a loop in order to snare horses and other animals.
- A person’s fingerprints are composed of loops and whirls.
- A necklace loops around the wearer’s neck. (In this sentence, loop is a verb.)
- Trains in downtown areas of large cites often go around in a loop.
- Downtown Chicago is encircled by elevated trains. This area is called The Loop.
- Fruit Loops are a popular breakfast cereal for children (and some adults!).
