When the word “clip” is used as a verb, it means to cut something.

As a noun, a clip is an object that holds things together:

- People use hair clips to hold their hair in place.
- A clipboard holds paper. The person who uses the clipboard can write while walking or standing.
We also use the word “clip” when talking about speed:
- A sail ship can move at a pretty good clip when the wind is blowing.
