Good evening, and welcome to the 10 o’clock news. Tonight’s main news:
Eight people have been injured in a bus crash on the outskirts of the city. The accident happened at 3.10 pm yesterday afternoon when the bus plowed into the cemetery wall. The cause of the crash is being investigated, although it is thought that the driver fell asleep at the wheel. None is critically injured. More soon.
There will be a parade in town today to commemorate the mayor’s birthday. He will be 60 tomorrow. The parade, organized by the local council, will begin at 3 o’clock in the town square. Volunteers in fancy dress will collect money along the way, which will be donated to the local hospital.
A giant butterfly has been spotted in Green Park. The butterfly, which was spotted by several individuals in a number of sightings, is said to have a wingspan of approximately 20 centimeters. Local conservationists are now out in force in an attempt to locate the butterfly and find out more about it.
A reformed drug addict will tell his story at the community center tomorrow. ‘Joe’, as he likes to be called, was imprisoned for 3 years for selling and possessing drugs. Since then he has changed dramatically and taken up painting. Some of his artwork will be on sale at the event. Admission is free.
The price of apples has risen unexpectedly nationwide this week. Customers can expect to pay an average of 59 pence per apple. Farmers say there has not been enough sun this year to grow apples and those which have grown have been affected by a mysterious bug, causing them to brown very quickly.
Today’s forecast is bright, with sunny spells all morning and top temperatures of 17 degrees Celsius. This afternoon will be even brighter, but the pollen count will be high, so watch out if you are a hayfever sufferer! Finally, tonight is expected to be humid.
That’s all for today. Enjoy the sunshine and we’ll see you tomorrow!
