Play

The verb “play” generally means to have fun or to compete in a game, but it is also used for many different human interactions and artistic activities.

 

A: What do you like to do on the weekend?

B: I like to play pool with my buddies.

 

1. He enjoys playing with his kids.

This is an example of a gerund.

2. There’s a great song playing on the radio.

3. This actor plays a 16th century prince in a very popular movie.

4. Many cats will play with a mouse before killing it.

5. I’m going to play my guitar this weekend with some friends who also play guitar.

6. Valentino has been playing soccer since he was five years old.

7. Laura has played an important role in the success of the company that she works for.
