Grammar Level 4- Lesson Three- Present Passive Tense

In this grammar lesson, you learn about Present Passive tense in English and how to use it in your English conversation and writing. Just follow present passive voice examples and write them down a few times to learn them very well. After finishing this lesson, you should work on its quiz.

The Present Passive Voice Examples

Subject + (be) + past participle

singular
I am + __________
You are + __________
He is + ___________
She is + __________
It is + __________

plural
We are + __________
You are + __________
They are + __________

* Adding the past participle after the verb “be” causes some students to believe the sentence is in the past tense, but it isn’t.

Active Voice=> Passive Voice

I teach English.=> English is taught by me.

Note: This sentence sounds a little strange. Sometimes the passive voice is not a good option.

You learn English.=> You are taught English. student
He learns English.=> He is taught English. man
She learns English. => She is taught English.

Sony makes this computer.=> It‘s made by Sony.

(Can’t use “learn” for a machine–not usually.)

We learn English. => We are taught English.

You learn English.=> You are taught English.
They learn English.=> They are taught English.

 

Remember: The verb “be” indicates the verb tense. In this lesson, the verbs are in the present tense. In the next lesson, the verbs will be in the past tense.
