Word of the Day: Try
Use the verb “try” when you do something for the first time or you do something that is difficult. A person who tries doesn’t give up. (give up = stop trying).

- The students tried to get all of their work done before the end of class.
- Farnoosh tries and tries but she still doesn’t understand certain verbs in English.
- You should try this bike. It’s very comfortable. (try = use something or try something for the first time.)
- Do you want to try this restaurant?
- Try to call me when you arrive in Los Angeles.
- I tried calling her, but there was no answer.
- Henrietta tried on several pairs of shoes at the shoe store.
- Everything is being tried by the doctors to save the man’s life. (The verb “try” in this sentence is in the present continuous passive voice.)
- Let’s try to get to bed early tonight.
- Charles and Doris have tried to be good parents to their children.
- You aren’t trying hard enough. Keep trying!
This word is also used as a noun:
- Go ahead and give it a try.
- That was a good try.
- Give it another try.
