Word of the Day: Mostly
The word “mostly” is an adverb that you use when talking about an amount that’s above half of something, usually well above half.
- Today the sky will be mostly sunny. (The sun will be out for most of the day.)
- Yesterday it was mostly cloudy. (There were a lot of clouds and the sun was out for just a short time.)
- The classes I teach are mostly made up of students who speak English as a second language.
- A turkey sandwich is mostly made up of turkey and bread.
- Lemonade is mostly water with sugar and lemon juice added for flavor.
- A human body is mostly water–about 60 percent.
- Toys sold in the United States are mostly produced in China.
- Crops grown in Minnesota are mostly corn and soybeans.
- It’s boring to listen to a man talk mostly about himself.
- She talks mostly about herself and no one wants to listen to that.

- Meatloaf is mostly beef.
- Chicken salad is mostly chicken.
- The sugar in pop is mostly high fructose corn syrup, so the sweet flavor comes mostly from corn.
