We use the word “kit” as a noun for any collection of things or tools that serve some specific purpose. A kit is usually portable. You can take it anywhere and bring it out when it is needed:

  • Carl keeps a first-aid kit in his car in case of an emergency.
  • Mary Ann has a small sewing kit which she uses to repair clothing.
  • Many people have a toolkit in their garage.
  • A toolkit has all kinds of tools for fixing things around the house and on a car.
  • If you ride a bike, it’s a good idea to carry around a repair kit in case you have problems.
  • Many business people refer to software and programs as “toolkits” that address certain needs within the company.
  • When I was a boy, I used a campfire kit for cooking whenever we went on a campout.
  • A fishing kit is also called a “tacklebox.”
